The Idea

The development of an agricultural training center will expand opportunities for rural farmers to gain knowledge and appropriate technologies which will enhance their ability to grow more and varied produce, and through the creation of local co-ops better market their produce for increased earnings.

The Specifics

A garden plot has already been selected and the lease completed. Funds are needed to properly prepare the soil, purchase necessary materials and equipment, and remodel the building currently on-site for use as a training center. Local staff has been selected and are waiting for the opportunity to begin this agriculture project. Rural farmers are anxious to begin training in organic fertilizer/pesticide/composting, and production of mushrooms and edumame, and other vegetables. Local restaurants are eager to have a local source of vegetables, versus having to buy their produce from neighboring Thailand and Vietnam. Chefs are waiting to purchase any and all the produce this garden will be able to grow.

I work with an orphanage outside of Seam Reap. Each year I raise money in the states and travel there. The orphanage has a Trailblazer mushroom farm. It gives them mushrooms to eat and $3 to $5 a day income...big money for a poor orphanage. I hired the folks at Trailblazer to help the orphanage to establish an irrigation system. They did a great job! Rich

I have the good fortune to meet with the founders of Trailblazers in Cambodia some years ago. Their passion and vision to empower Cambodians in rural areas remains with me till today.

Having been to Cambodia, I couldn't pass up the opportunity to donate to this organization when I first heard about it's work. No doubt they would make excellent use of the award money.

I've seen this organization in action and this is a very viable and sustainable project. It would be a great boost to the community to get this going.
