The Idea

FPH is a vibrant agency providing statewide services to 4,000 children & families in the child welfare system. We provide services to prevent children from entering foster care, support children & families already involved in the foster care system, and assist youth transitioning out of foster care.

The Specifics

Family Program Hawai‘i (formerly Foster Family Programs of Hawai‘i) is a 501 (c)(3) social service agency dedicated to strengthening children and families involved in the child welfare system through high quality prevention and support services. Family Programs Hawai‘i (FPH) provides services to prevent children from entering foster care; supports children and families already involved in the foster care system; and assists youth transitioning out of foster care. FPH currently has approximately 60 employees in its two offices, located in Honolulu and Hilo, and a receiving home in Ma‘ili.

I love my sister and my brother. We didn't have the most traditional upbringing, but we were never
torn apart by the lives and emotions beyond our control. Family ... or at least the feeling of family ...
can make or break the success of a child facing the future. Family Programs Hawaii is doing a remarkable job with dedicated staff and volunteers, to make sure that keiki can be connected to their siblings after being torn out of their family environment...that parents have resources to help them remain a family unit....that foster youth and their wonderful foster families have bonding activities and support, to make the very best out of an untraditional upbringing. Mahalo for supporting Family Programs Hawaii. As a Rotarian, I am proud we began this program years ago within the Rotary Club of Honolulu. I am impressed by the way the program has evolved in mission and grown with the support of the ohana of Hawaii. In some cases...our ohana is their only ohana.

Mike - Thanks for letting me know about this. I am familiar with the work these fine folks do and there is no end to how much value is created when we help kids who have had a rough start in life.

I've been involved with Family Programs Hawaii for years, and have never found a more dedicated staff, savvy director, or involved, giving Board. This is the non-profit to support!

Aloha everyone,

I want to take a moment to thank the folks responsible for producing the incredible video you see above. This truly was a grass-roots community effort, as is most everything we do at Family Programs Hawaii.

The video was produced start-to-finish by the film class at Hawaii Pacific University's downtown Honolulu campus, under the guidance of their professor Mr. Lewis Trusty. I'm sorry that I don't have the names of all the individual students at hand but I extend my sincere thanks to each and every one of them.

Aloha everyone,

Please join me in supporting the tremendous work being done at Family Programs Hawaii, the only social services agency in Hawaii that focuses exclusively on kids in out-of-home care. As a result of improvements made to Hawaii's child welfare system we, as a state, have reduced the population of kids in foster care by 50% over the last ten years. Just imagine what we can do if we continue to work to prevent kids from ending up in the system, and support those who do.

Please join me in supporting this project!

Mahalo,

Mike Curtis
