The Idea

Change for Art is a sustainable art project designed to create and cultivate art and support working artists in the Bluegrass region of Kentucky by providing mini-grants to encourage the cultural production of art, public art and a livable wage for working artists.

The Specifics

Public Art: Paid Artists

The program works with artists, local businesses, government entities, and organizations to make decommissioned parking meters into works of public art and reinstall them across Lexington, Kentucky to collect funds to cultivate more art.

Donations are redistributed to support the Artist Opportunity Fund—a mini-grant program which helps local artists produce and export their work.

Goals of the program:
Cultivate artists through funded micro projects
Connect artists to public arts projects through the CFA network
Set a standard for sustainable and continuing art projects
Become the de facto, and hitherto untapped, nexus between art and commerce in Kentucky

Change For Art is a much needed program here for Artists in Kentucky. This program directly supports the artists in their drive to produce new work and get it seen. The project is cyclical in that it not only raises funds to support the artists but hires them as well to create the means to collect the funds.
