Sudan has one of the highest maternal death rates in the world, with the average woman having around 6 births in her lifetime, many of those unplanned. We have made a significant dent in addressing the demand for quality family planning products and services, but there is still a vast unmet need.
In a few short years, DKT International has become a major force in family planning in Sudan, meeting the needs of nearly half of all women using modern contraception in a country which has some of the lowest health indicators in the world. DKT partners with the Sudan government and collaborates with government hospitals, religious leaders, community elders, and especially, husbands, with the objectives of reducing maternal mortality and reducing the prevalence of HIV/AIDS. As a result of DKT’s program, there is a growing demand for modern family planning services; the grant would help expand our reach, including rehabilitating more health centers, training more medical providers and reaching more women for counsel on birth spacing.
