The Idea

The Thing That Happened is a documentary short by director Andrew Walton (featuring an original score by Adam Horovitz of the Beastie Boys and Michael Rohatyn) about Hope North, a boarding school in Uganda for former child soldiers, orphans and other young survivors of Uganda's brutal civil war.

The Specifics

Hopenorth.org is a 40-acre campus in northern Uganda where refugees, orphans and former child soldiers find a place to call home. It is a living and learning community with an accredited secondary school, vocational training center and full time Ugandan staff of fifteen. The Mirembe Project is the U.S. based fiscal sponsor (501c3) for Hope North and all donations go directly to Hope North’s general operating funds.
