The Idea

7 preschool Nutritional Centers, in communities around Lake Atitlan provide healthy daily meals and snacks, and education, to 3-5 year olds who are malnourished or at risk of becoming so. Daily delivery of hot nutritious meal for elderly men or women frequently living in heartbreaking conditions.

The Specifics

49% of Guatemalana children under 5 suffer from Chronic malnutrition, while many seniors struggle to put nutritious food on the table. Mayan Familes offers practical, innovative and integrated programs to tackle this two-headed challenge head-on. Innovative community preschool Nutritional Centers provide healthy daily meals and education. In addition many elderly are often without enough to eat leaving them weak and malnourished, more vulnerable to illnesses and unable to provide for even their most basic needs. The program also seeks to improve the quality of life of the participants by soliciting support for beds, mattresses, blankets, diapers, water filters, or funds for necessary medications, medical care and transportation.
